Quail Creek State Park - St. George
"Quail Creek reservoir was completed in 1985 to provide irrigation and culinary water to the St. George area. Most of the water in the reservoir does not come from Quail Creek, but is diverted from the Virgin River and transported through a buried pipeline." [4Feet]: We arrived in Las Vegas around noon. Soon after we briefly finished our lunch in a Japanese restaurant, we headed east to our first stop - Saint George, which located in the southwestern corner of Utah on the Arizona border. It was less than 2 hours of driving from Las Vegas, and barely an hour of driving from Zion National Park. Utah belongs to mountain standard time which shrank our time by 1 hour as we were crossing from the Pacific time zone. It was about 4:30 upon our arrival, and the sun was already falling near to the horizon. After driving 2 hours through miles of dry wasteland, this water state park definitely caught our attention. Quail Creek State Park is known as a place for water activities for residents in St. George. In wintertime, the water surface of the creek usually remains quiet and peaceful. Only a few quails may be present. The water was clear yet showed its grey/light blue reflection from the sky. Today we brought clouds to Utah. St George only has precipitation, on average, about 43 days per year, and we encountered one of those on our first day. 12/17/20
