Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park - Kanab
"Coral Pink Sand Dunes is the only major sand dune field on the Colorado Plateau, and the dunes are estimated to be 10,000 to 15,000 years old. The park lies 30 minutes outside the nearest town - Kanab and locates also 30 miles southeast of the east entrance of Zion National Park." [4Feet]: We arrived at sunset time. The abruptly changing twilight not only painted the sky ruby red and violet but also turned sand dunes golden and later rosy pink. Although there is plenty of orange sand in Utah, this is the first time we have seen pink mixed into the sand. It is romantically beautiful. The park sits on an elevation of 6,000 feet, which is higher than the summit of Angels Landing. The presence of little snow on the sand field did not surprise us. Fortunately, 95% of the field remains dry and clean as the warmth during the day melted most of the snow and ice. I tried to do a sand angel face-down like the snow angel I did in Mount St Helens, but the result was not so expected. Though I did not dare to jump too much especially when doing face-down on a sand field, the jump was still painfully stupid (almost hurt my ribs) according to my partner's laughing volume. 12/19/20
