Haystack Rock - Cannon Beach, Oregon
[4Feet]: Haystack Rock, a 72-m sea stack guarding over Cannon Beach, has always been one of the drive-by places we would like to visit. Concerning a 3-hr drive per one-trip, we usually tended to go for more challenging hikes. Yet, the winter snow has been holding us from mountain hiking for the longest time. Without further ado, we picked one Sunday to visit this legendary big rock. Haystack Rock and surrounding big rocks were formed by lava flows from the Blue Mountains in Oregon millions of years ago. They are sitting on their very own 4-mile-long sandy shore facing the Pacific Ocean. The town barely above the beach is a small coastal city with a population of less than 2,000. The absence of major constructions or businesses in town keeps the beach clean and well preserved. The main street is narrow and there is no designed parking space for the beach. It could be quite a struggle to find a parking spot on a warm and beautiful day in summer. 3/21/21
